The ZeroGen Clean Coal Power Demonstration Project aims to demonstrate the viability of integrating coal-based gasification and carbon capture and storage to produce low emission baseload electricity.
The proposed plant will be located adjacent to the Stanwell Power Station, near Rockhampton. The carbon dioxide (CO2) will be captured at the site and transported 220kms by pipeline for safe storage in deep underground reservoirs in the Northern Denison Trough.
If viable, the integration of these technologies has the potential to cut CO2 emissions in excess of 75 percent in the demonstration plant, and by up to 90 percent in full-scale commercial plants.
